Technical Difficulties

I'm thinking that this weekends frustrations can be categorized under the shortcomings list.  After running into a many technical difficulties this weekend I have finally figured out a solution.  My plan for last week was to shoot self portraits with film, pick out some of the best shots and have those transferred into slide format.  The next step was to then go out into the actual abandoned spaces and project onto those buildings.  So going about the plan, I called Robin Imaging asking questions, only to find out that their machine to create the slides is broken, and they have no intention of fixing it...

So I have decide to re-shoot all over again with transparency film and to just have those developed rather than sending out my .tif files of scanned negatives to some faraway city.

I will unfortunately not have as much as I had hoped for crit tomorrow, but film has already been ordered, and here is a practice image I created in Photoshop working with double images.

  1. I really enjoy the contextualization between the natural shapes your body against the man-made rigid shapes of the buildings/the window. There is a balance between natural and synthetic in this image but also the flow of the curtains carries the natural forms throughout the photograph. I think this is something you should consider when making further images in this way.

  2. i love love love your use of windows. i can tell youre drawn to them, as far as including them in your images, and i think they can really add something to your overall subject matter and concept as a whole.
    way to go!

  3. Knowing what your senior thesis is about i them this is an extremely successful image. Not only were you able to add yourself to the space but you actually enabled yourself to became apart of the space. The way your right are very gently becomes one with the left hand curtain is intensely beautiful and the way the lines from the door underneath the image of your body almost mimic your spine is just subtle enough to not be distracting but very effective. I know that as of yet you have no been able to shoot using the projector at the actual locations but i don't think you should completely throw the idea of using photoshop out the window. If the projector works then great! But if you can't get it to work the way you want i think its blatantly obvious from the image you have shown here that you can make very VERY successful imagery using photoshop

  4. I really love the use of photoshop here. It is not at all that cheesy "hey i know how to use photoshop and it's fun" but rather a beautiful marriage of two photos. I think the change in the opacity really helps get your personal point across!
